When do Google Ads and Facebook Ads work?

Thu 10:00am 23 Apr 2020
In this episode of Marketing 101, we're looking at the capabilities and costs of Facebook and Google Ads. Though it is possible to create a successful marketing campaign on these platforms, the costs of using them far outweigh any benefits.

There is no denying the outreach power of Google or Facebook. The media giants boast billions of users a day, and can place your ad in front of a global audience or a selective group of individuals. The latter option is powered by company's incredible analytics software, which can determine place ads according to strict demographics, which is usually far more useful than the global option, which might see your ad placed outside of your target market. For instance, there's not much point in displaying an ad for lawn mowing in Brisbane to Facebook users in New York. However, as useful as this analytic software can be, it's an extremely high and entirely unnecessary cost considering that other, organic marketing channels can be just as effective, if not more so.

Organic marketing will often naturally result in carefully targeted ads and outreach, meaning you don't have to spend large amounts of money to achieve the same results as you can with Facebook or Google. The same can be said for any social media platform you might be using: whether it be Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, using word of mouth, making phone calls and driving sales yourself will always be more cost-effective for your business. Your social media circles are full of potential investors and customers, and an organic post from your own account has more authority than an ad can ever achieve. When you want all the benefits of social media marketing, then the best option will always be to advertise organically instead of relying on their own ad platforms.
