How does life coaching work?

Sun 6:41am 19 Nov 2017

It was maybe 6 years ago the Adrian Cahill appeared through a shrub onto the beach at Hamilton Island. Fresh off a flight we took off in my Zodiac to start our first Couch Surfing experience. Both experience hosts in the CS system we were passionate about the world and people of the world. Many beers, errr, I mean years later, I am working hard building eCentral and Adrian has transitioned from "world traveller" to "life coach" and inspires with the many stories to apply care and well-known coaching systems to help people to marry their dreams to the exclusion of all others :-)

In this video Adrian demystifies how life coaching works.

Video transcript:
and his life coaching work is the subject of today's e central business show I'm John Nolan joined by Adrienne Cahill life coach the how ironic okay Adrienne how does life coaching work a life coaching is simply a relationship okay not quite like a romantic relationship with all those annoyances it was gonna say users but a lot of these successful successful authors talk about you are the results of the people you hang around most and Mars is the battery is the average of their five best friends very commonly used in the West hmm so when you're employing a courage it's like a relationship mm-hmm now there are some coaches out of work a bit like a psychologist and it'll be a session by session once a week once a fortnight at a particular time calling in or meeting face-to-face and having this session mm-hmm well I think what's more powerful is a more powerful relationship which isn't an hour by hour session by session think it doesn't really work well for me mm-hmm I think it should work like this okay yes you hire you partner you work with a life coach you have a deep discussion this is like hopping into a pool you just hop into the shallow end to step in really easy and we weigh it across to a bit of the deeper waters and we really discuss what's really important in life mm-hm set out goals and milestones yeah talk on a regular basis mm-hmm to help move you forward to the place you want to be okay whether it be our early sessions or discussions during the week or messages that's got to be irrelevant you got to be able to contact your coach whenever you want like a friend yeah yeah and so but if has a work in terms of obviously there's the questions of what are you gonna help with yeah so for instance if it's someone's in under employee and it's thinking about something right business or thinks they should we get a higher rate of pay I mean how do you work through those sorts of things just as a hypothetical just roam throw some stuff at no interesting interesting yeah I kind of let the sort of question that sort of people out there and on YouTube we're gonna be asking you know what what how does it work if I need a pay rise or I feel strongly you need a pay rise a coach can help me one particular thing about being a pay-rise may be the skills needed mmm and you'll find those that are that good with people and those that are good at seeing bigger picture will get paid more and more mm-hmm look at any organization the person that changes the tires on the cars get less financial reward than those that manage the car yard you get even less money than those that own the car yards mm-hmm so for that it might be doing the switches in the brain hmm it might be a matter of pulling them out of their regular habits of thinking at the tire level and get them thinking about the bigger picture okay okay so so are you talking about mindset there now that sort of thing or you know some some really yeah we bit of it yeah what billet buzzword nowadays are so it's mindfulness yeah yeah don't we know but so we're talking about a bit of rewiring so to speak or a conversation about you know adjusting the the thought patterns and the brain to help them step up not so you're not going to coach and say oh this is how you should structure a conversation with an employer to back them into quarters that they have to give you a pay rise yeah you're coming out from sort of another way yeah that particular question is really really good so the thing is when it comes to getting a pay rise and it comes to an interview it's really not what you say hmm yeah and if the people that you're talking with like your friends they might tell you to say star or a career person might tell you to say specific things well when it comes to an interview it's absolutely nothing to do with what you say mmm it's all about the Curzon's you bring hmm you walk in with a particular level of energy hmm yeah yeah and you bring a curiosity curiosity about them and if it's a good fit and it's much more about bringing the states of curiosity openness hmm you know I'm here yeah tell me about your business that is so much more important than what you're going to say hence you cut down your preparation time mm-hmm you cut down the fluff in the interviews mm-hmm and you get the job much quicker the amount of people that do career changes career changes getting jobs and stuff through life coaches it's incredibly quick yeah okay so and tip on the basics you're saying it's the way you're carrying yourself interviewing and I agree with that I've got some friends and that I listen to their stories about being interviewed regularly around contracting stuff like that and how in his case it's it's based upon him going into an interview as the interviewer he turns the tables very quickly and he's that curiosity they question he said well am I the right fit for your business because I want to make sure I've Ally my skills with the right sort of business for the right sort of values yes so that you obviously a big fan of that as well yeah totally yeah great okay so what are the some of the other things that maybe you know when we address the question of how does life coaching work yeah so you're saying it's something where your life coach should be it on what access but not necessarily in person I know for instance with yourself you did quite a lot of stuff by phone yes yes and then that's really amazing because people actually think that getting face to face is more effective than coaching yeah in general that's what people believe but trust me it was coaching face to face you know I had to change to phone and I was like no it's not gonna work and the clients I was working with started getting bigger results as soon as I went to the phone no okay so what you're saying less Adrienne Cahill is better well you said well less in person Adrienne curls better well as we're talking we are aware of each other's body language okay yes of course that's what people do not just naturally aware of people's body language now when you're talking to a coach face to face unconsciously or consciously you're aware of what they're doing so the client might say to me something like you know I slipped with some woman or something and they're looking for a reaction or they might I'm afraid of something and they're kind of looking at me for a physical reaction over the telephone their reaction isn't there no okay so they say things and it's like going to a valley today announced over the valley you know I'm afraid of something yeah I want something you know and what did they hear back there neck oh yeah okay they're clear of the echo hmm and in that echo there is a lot of learning no okay is a lot of learning points in the echo and face to face there's so much distortion okay so there's actually that level of abstraction you think is thinking is the positive thing that's really interesting completely completely not to mention is also from the comfort of your own home yeah so a lot of my guys will have a Sunday evening cup of coffee no or some guys a beer hmm yeah and I'll be sitting at my home feet up relaxed and they'll be at their home or out in a park hmm you know out in nature some guys in there in their office environments they'll go out to the park well they'll have a private you know office in the company that they'll go to hmm and they don't have to transit across town there's no half hour rides or anything let's just get into the comfort of your own home a park or an office in yeah well if it's gonna be life coaching it's gonna fit into your lifestyle yeah yes it's got to be comfortable it's got to be easy it's got to be powerful and it's got to be effective mm-hmm okay good stuff all right we'll look we're running out of time in this video I think we've covered the question quite nicely dad was life coaching work even then that the nuts and bolts or the phone calls in the face-to-face anyway Adrian how do people find you simply to scribble Adrian Cahill or you can check out I'm sure you can find me a new east central site yeah yeah well you've got your own domain you got your own website as well yeah what I love is just our LinkedIn or Google ad rien que yo boom you'll find me I try it up tremendous and so you can't find you that way as well yeah okay and obviously there's something you do in terms of though there's a first consultation then get in contact you would have a have a free consultation or some sort of free conversation about we're very very happy to take information sessions share sessions I'll share about coaching maybe we're not a match I'll recommend it to someone else or you know I can introduce to them the various levels listen and I may be able to connect with someone better than me perhaps it's just a matter of making that first call and you're completely free no come at all I love it okay Adrian thank you very much for coming in my stick around we've got a few more questions to ask you but um that's really wealthy or great stuff to hear about in life coaching yeah that's great okay that's another episode done of the east central business show I'm John Nayler
