Recruitment is a process. Good recruitment involves more than just writing a simple job advertisement, picking a couple of the best and then interviewing them. It involves understanding the role desired, the traits and characteristics of the perfect employee, and careful strategic selection that involves a lengthy process of vetting, interviews and tests (where necessary). Managers these days simply don't have the time and believe that what they see is what they get; or better yet, managers frequently claim that they can "read people" so well, they needn't run that candidate through those necessary hoops to ensure they're of the right fit. As a consequence, technicalities of the job are often missed when the interview is conducted and hirers simply hire on the pretence that "they had a good chat."
