Video Transcript:
what is the life coaches what we talked about today on the east central business show I'm John Nayler and I'm joined today again boy Adrian Cahill a life coach well okay well that's quite obvious gonna step straight into it what is a life coach you should know you've been in the trade some time Adrian okay so what is a life coach from my perspective there are two main types yeah and there's a big distinction here so what is a life coach well it depends on we're talking about a credentialed life coach or uncredentialed mm-hmm so the uncredentialed life coach quickly as I mentioned before my daughter your neighbor maybe you go down and you coach the football team and while you're there you'd talk to the boys a little bit about stuff mm-hmm so that's the uncredentialed area and life coaching which is pretty much advice just advice well we're always getting that sort of stuff from friends aren't we yes yes I'm potential very powerful is that well yeah we tend to want to believe that what our friends is thinner so the right direction don't we Hydra but yeah so there's no credentials involvement no but then you have the other area which is the area I I work in call myself a professional coach and I actually use a title executive coach law mm-hmm so a lot of my clients would be executives we'll be in talking more about leadership talking more about the work environment and quite often well start with the work environment but then we'll go a bit bigger picture because let's face it there's a lot more to life than work right yeah a lot of the executives I'm working with they'll want to start their own business that want a better relationship but the things are stopping them you know they're getting good money at work so they won't want to leave so I'm credentialed and credentialed all right now the credentialed coaches have particular processes trainings qualifications certifications to look out for yeah and that puts them in a category where the results they get are phenomenally different from the first category mm-hmm so the professional category at the extreme may include like Anthony Robbins okay yeah sure yeah big brand so and how about in terms of the comparison of life coaches it's a versus the advice you get from trusted friends or family or that sort of thing I take it that you know it should actually be a level of structure around the advice you give this should be a bit of a technique that's formalized in some way yeah yeah I use a scale to several one to five ladies and gents so it is scale one that would be your next-door neighbors or your friends two would be the psychologists therapists and they're great so if you've fallen over in life you've gone through a tough situation trauma therapy bad divorce anxiety and stuff you might need to see the psychologist therapist for that mm-hmm the next level up would be the credentialed life coach it will help you get the life you know you know more of a peak performance not necessarily peak it may also include mindfulness which is just like a such a simple thing for us over marketed it's amazing mindfulness has been around thousands of years y'all it's meditation and little short stories or not all it says really really funny because there's some mindfulness coaches and they're simply like kids that have gone up to a temple in Thailand for a week calm down course of mindfulness coach yeah okay but anyhow the three-level say you got your friends you got the psychologists therapists for those that are fallen over you get your life coaches for getting stuff really together fourth level would be like the business coach mm-hmm yeah and the pick would be your super coaches now for yourself with what you do you're super level coach might be someone that has super mega stars on this show hmm like an example is a guy from mine Bali who has dr. John Gray you know David Asprey you know all the Tim Ferriss Tim Ferriss would be a super mentor coach for you who'd be the the top level okay so you get the five levels you hang up yeah okay cool cool so and where does the life coach kick in then so at what point do people want to talk to you of have they just gotten over something momentous or they just want a bit more from life and then they say oh maybe one of these life coaches is what I need well I do get phone calls from people that may be better off elsewhere and then I'm totally cool and very happy to take those calls very happy to take those calls I also give a lot of money actually to lifeline China who takes calls from all the expats okay yeah oh yeah I get it expats can at times you know suffer through some and there's often no one is too bland yeah no one no contact you so I don't family I don't really deal with suicide the distress the high distress but I often will get those calls and what I'll do is I'll connect them to a psychologist yeah or connect them to an appropriate Center okay it's really important when someone says you know I'm interested or you know something's happened that they have someone they can call and connect them to the right service okay man I'm quite passionate about that I think everyone should have so that's something that life coach is not you know you don't necessarily want to do with the trauma type calls the very serious end of things yeah there's a professional isn't that trade yeah there's professionals and I'm very happy to talk maybe a little assessment and connect to the more appropriate I also talked to some people that really need a high-level business coach I'm really happy to refer hmm okay cool cool well that's all really interesting stuff about what a life coach is there no Drance oh and a little bit about you then how do people connect with you or find out your credentials or look into your background how do they find you yeah the Internet's pretty good I get most a lot of people that work with me they found me through their friends or referrals like I've done hundreds hundreds of phone calls now with people where I've just shared and giving them an hour or two of my time listening and connecting them up to some better resource quite often the old connect people up with some books hmm you know I'll very happily recommend a book because not everyone can afford professional services mm-hmm yeah so you can just find me Google LinkedIn know Chinese social media I'm in China a lot okay tremendous all right well that's fabulous thanks very much for coming in today I drew and um we look forward to actually we've got one more burning question around how much does it cost hope you stick around yeah yeah the good question Harry how much does it cost you okay great okay another episode done for the central business show I'm John Nayler
